Here, almost all houses have three bins, which are further subdivided. As a result, the collection points that you probably know from previous holidays are now only available in a few places.
Here you can find out how to sort your rubbish and which type of waste goes in which bin.
Important: Please always tie the bags securely so that ash does not fly into the faces of the waste disposal workers or food scraps fall at their feet... THANK YOU!
Tips for waste separation
Not everyone knows enough Danish to read the information on the bins. Here are a few tips to help you find your way around.
MADAFFALD = Organic waste
Here it is collected food scraps, fish bones, bones... all that is organic but WITHOUT packaging!
IMPORTANT: This waste must be PACKAGED before being thrown into the bin!
It is disposed of in the special green bags provided. Please tie the bag securely before throwing it into the correct compartment.
Please note: The green bags must NOT be used for other types of rubbish!
Thank you :o)
Tip: Need new green bags?
Simply tie one to the appropriate bin and the waste disposal team will deliver more next time. If you can't find any green bags in the building, just pop into the office and we'll give you some.
GLAS = Glas
There is often a bin with two sections for glass and metal, but in some municipalities glass still has to be disposed of in a container.
Remember: screw caps are metal and belong in the metal compartment.
You will find a glass container at the car park by the landmark in Vedersø Klit.
MAD- & DRIKKEKARTONER = Tetra Packs
Simply dispose of completely empty and folded Tetra Packs here.
This includes cartons of milk, yoghurt, thick milk, cream and juice, as well as tomato purée, chickpeas, beans, etc.
Good to know: If there is no special sticker for Tetra Packs, beverage cartons should be disposed of in the plastic bin.
PAP = Cardboard / PAPIR = Paper
These recyclable materials are sometimes collected together in one bin, but sometimes separately.
Paper: newspapers, magazines, journals, etc.
Cardboard: corrugated cardboard, outer packaging, egg cartons, etc.
METAL = Metal
This is where completely empty tins and other metal containers, bottle and jar lids, bottle caps, aluminium foil, yoghurt lids, coffee capsules, etc. go.
Oh, and don't forget: beverage cans that don't have a deposit.
PLAST = Plastic
This bin is for all plastic items. However, NO polystyrene!
This also includes
Plastic toys, but WITHOUT electronic or metal components.
Plastic bags WITHOUT metal coating.
Note: Polystyrene is called Flamingo here. This type of waste must be disposed of at the recycling centre (Sønder Nissum).
FARLIGT AFFALD = Hazardous waste
This is usually collected in a small red box.
You can put old batteries or rechargeable batteries in here. Nail polish/nail polish remover, spray cans, light bulbs, oil residues, insecticides, printer cartridges, etc. also belong here.
RESTAFFALD = Residual waste
Anything that cannot be clearly categorised or that consists of a mixture of materials goes here.
Here are a few examples: vacuum cleaner bags, cigarette butts, cat litter, dog waste bags, packaging with inner metal foil such as coffee packaging or some crisp packets, cotton wool, cotton buds, sanitary towels, napkins, pizza boxes, nappies, gift wrapping paper, etc.
Tip: Completely cooled ashes from the fireplace also belong here. Very important: Dispose of them in a separate bag that you tie tightly.
Please help us to ensure that waste separation works.
Remember: the green bags are really only for organic waste. Do NOT use them for other types of waste.
One thing that is really annoying: if green bags are in another compartment, the bin will not be emptied. Our refuse collectors take this very seriously.
You need to buy your own bin bags – the green ones should be in the building. If not, just pop into the office and we'll give you some. Tie one of the green bags directly to the bin in question and new bags will be left for you the next time it is emptied.
